Obtaining NYS Cerification via Interstate Reciprocity

Do you hold a teaching certification in another state and wish to teach in NYS?  Most schools and districts require NYS certification.  You can apply for a NYS certification via the Pathway for Interstate Reciprocity.

Requirements (I am using certification in Early Childhood Education and Biology as my example):

  • Education - Bachelors Degree
  • Valid Level 2 or Higher Cert AND 3 yrs exp, OR completion of approved program - Early Childhood Education (Birth-Grade 2)
  • New York State Teacher Certification Exam - Liberal Arts & Science Test (LAST)
  • New York State Teacher Certification Exam - Elementary Assessment of Teaching Skills (ATS-W)
  • Content Specialty Test (CST) - Multi-Subject
  • Fingerprint Clearance

  • New York State Teacher Certification Exam - Liberal Arts & Science Test (LAST)
  • New York State Teacher Certification Exam - Secondary Assessment of Teaching Skills (ATS-W)
  • Content Specialty Test (CST) - Biology
  • Fingerprint Clearance
